If you're familiar with The Dirty Three, Boxhead Ensemble, Bonnie Prince
Billy's Get On Jolly, Cat Power's Moon Pix, or any of the other recordings Mick
Turner and Jim White have contributed to, you're probably already familiar
with their unique ability to lull and seduce listeners. Packaged in a beautiful
digipack, The Swimmer is the Tren Brothers' contribution to Western Vinyl's
portrait series. Previous contributors have included Bonnie Prince Billy,
Appendix Out, Papa M, Kohn, and Anomoanon.
For The Swimmer the Tren Brothers created four musical selections and four
quicktime videos, one to accompany each audio track. The music swoons
with Jim White's perfectly expressive and sensual drumming and Mick
Turner's signature guitar style. As anyone familiar with their work knows,
Jim's unique drumming is the perfect compliment to Mick Turner's moody
swirls of guitar and melodica.
As mentioned, they’ve also provided four beautiful short films. Each film
follows Mick Turner through the process of creating a painting. Images of
these paintings also comprise the CD’s artwork. Together Mick Turner and
Jim White have used music, film, and still images to create a beautiful portrait
of a character known only as The Swimmer.

PRESS QUOTES
-"Throughout the EP, shimmering
guitar tones from the inventive Turner
sprinkle along the broad landscapes,
while the underrated drumming of
White swirls and pulses at the perfect
moments." -All Music Guide
-"On Dirty Three records, Ellis was
always the madman scampering
around Turner's garden. When that
garden is undisturbed, though, it's a
beautiful thing, as Turner has proven
on releases with White as Tren
Brothers" -Pitchfork
"...guitarist Mick Turner and drummer
Jim White – move through some of
the grittiest, most mesmerizing music
you'll hear this year, bending simple,
melodic themes into turbulent
improvisations that stretch across a
vast sonic and emotional terrain."
