Advanced Practical Writing – “A Note about Dinner” 

 
Directions: 

Write a note to a friend explaining why you can’t come to his or her house 

for dinner.

 

Try to write at least 4-5 sentences. 

 

Example: 

Dear James, 

 

 

I am sorry but I will not be able to come to your house for dinner this 

Thursday. My son, Jeremy, has recently become very sick. He is having trouble eating 
and is very dehydrated. I am worried because the doctors do not know what is wrong
