SINGLE LIFE b/w MY BEST FRIEND

So we asked Stephen McBean to help us out with the description of this 7-inch slice of
vinyl heaven he created. We got the following key phrases out of him: “European car ads”
and “4 am dancing shoes”. The first song, called “Single Life,” is yet another in a long line of
great fuzzed out Velvet-styled gems by Pink Mountaintops, sped up ever so slightly to be in
synch with the minds of akathisiacs everywhere. And the reverse side, “My Best Friend,” is
the more affecting and spiritual of the two, perhaps McBean’s most beautifully crafted song
to date.

Pink Mountaintops is Stephen McBean (and also many of his friends when the full band is
assembled to play live). McBean has been in numerous groups over the last two decades. As
a thirteen-year old, he played in a band called Jerk Ward, playing hardcore influenced by
the Neos, Discharge, Crucifix and whoever else was fast or the fastest. His other bands to
date have been a straight out punk outfit, a crusty punk/metal band, and, most recently, a
psych-tinged maximal rock group whose self-titled debut record, Black Mountain, captured
a great amount of critical acclaim (and meteorically became Jagjaguwar’s best-selling title.)
The music of Pink Mountaintops can be saucy, sexy, rowdy, mind-blowing, minimal,
orchestrated, stripped down, elaborate, or spiritual, or any combination of these things,
though not usually elaborate and minimal at the same time... you get the idea...

1. Pink Mountaintops is Stephen McBean’s project. McBean is the principal songwriter and
one of the two principal vocalists for Black Mountain, authors of Jagjaguwar’s best-selling
recording to date. McBean’s notoriety is at all all-time high, with Pink Mountaintops
recently performing with standard-bearers Flaming Lips as well as with Wolfmother, and
with Black Mountain having toured with Coldplay not too long ago. The Black Mountain
and Pink Mountaintops records have been the recipient of significant reviews and features
in the likes of Rolling Stone, Mojo, Spin, Fader and Uncut.

2. Pink Mountaintops will be touring frequently throughout North America. Their full
band often features multiple percussionists, and the Pink Mountaintops live performance
has become famous for consistently breaking down audience members’ inhibitions. Yes, a
