ANSYS Computing Platform Support
January 2015
ANSYS is committed to providing timely releases of high-quality software products on current computing
platforms that are well-suited for engineering simulations. We monitor industry trends and customer needs in
order to select the right computing platforms to certify and support, periodically eliminating support for aging
platforms and adding support for new platforms. This document provides a high-level summary of our current
platform support strategy and near-term plans.
ANSYS General Platform Support Strategy
The ANSYS platform support strategy is as follows:
We focus on support of Windows and Linux operating systems, running on x64 processors from Intel and AMD.
These are the dominant platforms for engineering simulation today.
We support Enterprise editions of Linux from Red Hat and SUSE. Unlike consumer editions or open-source versions,
Enterprise Linux versions provide long-term operating system stability and product maintainability. Other Linux
variants are not currently supported.
As we increase our focus on virtual and cloud based computing we aim to add platforms well suited to these
environments.
ANSYS 16.0 Supported Platforms
ANSYS 16.0 is the latest released version. The specific operating system versions supported by ANSYS 16.0
products and License Manager are documented and posted at
http://www.ansys.com/Support/Platform+Support
ANSYS 16.0 includes support for the following:
Windows 7 (64-bit Professional and Enterprise versions)
Windows 8.1 (64-bit Professional and Enterprise versions)
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition (64-bit), Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)
Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Edition
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.4 and 6.5 (64-bit)
SUSE Enterprise Linux Server and Desktop (SLES / SLED) 11 SP2-SP3 (64-bit)
In addition, ANSYS 16.0 also supports the following Infrastructure:
VMware vSphere 5.5 (Windows 7, 64-bit only) Hypervisor virtual machine
Citrix XenServer 6.2 (Windows 7, 64-bit only) Hypervisor virtual machine
Citrix XenServer 6.2 (RHEL 6.4, 6.5 and SLES 11 SP2-SP3, 64-bit only) Hypervisor virtual machine
Not all applications are supported on all of these platforms. See detailed information, by product, at the URL noted
above.
Platforms Dropped at ANSYS 16.0
The following platforms previously supported in ANSYS 15.0 are no longer supported for ANSYS 16.0
applications and License Manager:
Windows XP
Windows 7 (32-bit)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.7-5.9, and 6.2-6.3 (64-bit)
SUSE Enterprise Linux Server and Desktop (SLES / SLED) 11 SP1 (64-bit)
Platforms to be Dropped in 2015 and 2016
Tables 1 and 2, at the end of this letter, summarize the platform support roadmap for ANSYS products. As shown
in the tables, ANSYS 16.0 will be the last release on the following platforms:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.4
SUSE Enterprise Linux Server and Desktop (SLES / SLED) 11 SP2
You should begin migration away from these platforms to prepare for the ANSYS releases in 2015 and beyond.
ANSYS Quality Assurance Services
ANSYS Quality Assurance (QA) Services customers should refer to the release Installation Guide for details on
which platforms are supported. Typically, QA Services and the associated Verification Testing Packages will be
available for the same platforms as ANSYS 16.0. Contact the ANSYS, Inc. Corporate Quality Group at
for information about ANSYS, Inc.'s QA Services.
