ROZUMIENIE TEKSTU PISANEGO
Zadanie 4. (0–4)
Przeczytaj tekst. Dobierz właściwe nagłówki (A–F) do każdego fragmentu tekstu. Wpisz odpowiednią literę w miejsca
(4.1.–4.4.). Uwaga: dwa nagłówki zostały podane dodatkowo i nie pasują do żadnego fragmentu.
A
Leaving the cottage.
B
The local area.
C
Care with appliances.
D
Where things are.
E
Who to contact.
F
Payments for damages.
Dear visitor,
Welcome to our cottage. Please take a few minutes to read this information pack, which will help you to have an
enjoyable and problem-free stay.
4.1.
The washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and cooker in the cottage are all regularly checked. However, please
make sure you read the instruction manuals before using them. Spending a few minutes doing this at the start of your
holiday will ensure that you have a relaxing, stress-free time while you are here.
4.2.
The washing machine and dryer are downstairs in the basement. Please take care as the ceiling is low. There are books
and games in the living room and toys in the garden shed. These are really for the beach rather than the garden as we
have had some complaints from the neighbours about damage caused to their properties.
4.3.
We do not live locally but we do have a representative nearby. He can fix almost any problem that may occur. He has his own
key so, if there are any problems, you don’t have to wait for him to arrive. His phone number is at the end of this pack.
4.4.
Although you can enjoy peace and quiet in the cottage, you are not too far from everything you need. If you leave the
cottage and turn left, you will find a small supermarket and post office about 100 metres along the road. Please take
care of children as there are no pavements.

Zadanie 5. (0–3)
Przeczytaj tekst, z którego usunięto trzy zdania. Wpisz w luki (5.1.–5.3.) litery, którymi oznaczono brakujące zdania (A–E),
tak aby otrzymać logiczny i spójny tekst. Uwaga: dwa zdania zostały podane dodatkowo i nie pasują do żadnej luki.
LIKE EXPERIMENTING?
With four children to keep happy and the weather not suitable for the beach, we decided to visit the Experyment
science centre in Gdynia. It was an easy bus ride to the centre and we entered, hoping that the children would enjoy it.
5.1.
The children scattered to find things that they enjoyed and, despite the fact that their ages ranged from six to
thirteen, they all managed to find something very quickly. There were queues for some of the most exciting activities but
that still left a lot to do.
The centre was an ideal size as it kept the children happy for two hours and no-one got bored. There was also useful
information by each activity which helped us to explain what they were doing and what they could learn from it. For
someone with limited scientific knowledge this was invaluable. 5.2.
The centre was a cheap, fun way to spend the morning. 5.3.
However, as we waited for the bus back to the hotel
and the waiting swimming costumes, the excited conversations weren’t about what was to come but what they had just
seen and done.
A
They were helpful and patient.
B
Even better, while we were there, the sun came out.
C
We didn’t have to worry as there were many things to do.
D
Other people had obviously had the same idea.
E
It made the day educational as well as fun.

What would YOU do?
Stan Parkinson was standing in front of his boss. Stan had taken time off for his son’s wedding even though he had
already used up all his holiday time for the year. Instead of ‘going off sick’ as everyone advised, he had asked
permission. The boss had refused but Stan had gone to the wedding anyway, risking the loss of his job. Stan wasn’t
listening to his boss. He was remembering the wedding. What a great day. He smiled to himself. Suddenly, his boss’s tone
changed. “Do you find this funny?” he asked Stan angrily.
6.3. Stan had to go and see his boss because he
A
had pretended he was sick.

THE TIME MACHINE (fragment)
Far away I heard a scream, and saw a thing like a huge white butterfly flying up into the sky and, circling, disappear over
some low hills. The sound of its voice was so sad that it made me nervous. Looking round again, I saw that, quite near, what
I had thought to be a red rock was moving slowly towards me. Then I saw the thing was really a monstrous crab-like creature.
Can you imagine a crab as large as a table, with its many legs moving slowly towards you, its eyes looking straight at you?
As I stared at this horrible creature, I felt a tickling on my cheek as though a fly had landed there. I tried to brush it
away with my hand, but in a moment it returned, and almost immediately there came another by my ear. I struck at
this, and caught something like a thin piece of wire. I turned, and I saw another monster crab just behind me. Its evil
eyes were moving round and its mouth was ready to make me its dinner. In a moment my hand was on the lever of the
time machine, and I had placed a month between myself and these monsters. But I was still on the same beach, and I
saw them as soon as I stopped.
It was a terrible world I was in. The red eastern sky, the dead sea, the stony beach full of these giant monsters, the
poisonous-looking green of the plants, the thin air that hurt my lungs. Was this really the Earth? What had happened to
the people, civilizations, my world? I moved on a hundred years, and there was the same red sun – a little larger, but not
as bright, the same dying sea, the same cold air, and the same crabs walking among the green weeds and red rocks.
So I travelled, stopping every thousand years or more, watching with a strange fascination the sun grow larger and the
life of the old earth die away. At last, more than thirty million years into the future, the huge red-hot sun filled nearly
a tenth part of the skies. The crawling crabs had disappeared, and the red beach seemed lifeless.
I looked about me to see if any traces of animal life remained but I saw nothing moving, on earth or sky or sea. Only the
green plants on the rocks showed that life was not quite yet extinct.
