Woman’s Vest

Design: Stip Studio

For Size 36/38 (Small) = left numbers
For Size 40/42 (Medium) = middle numbers
For Size 44/46 (Large) = right numbers
If there is only one number, it applies to all sizes.

Materials - Merino 85 from Austermann
100% Merino Wool extrafine superwash, each ball = approx 85 m/50 g
650 (700/750) g in Color 05 beige

Knitting needles 6 and 7 mm (US 10 and 10 ½) from Schoeller + Stahl

Rib Pat:
K2, P2 Rib with 6 mm (US 10) needles

Take time to check gauge! (Change needle size if necessary)
Basic Pat 1: (Gauge: 16 sts and 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”)
St st with 6 mm (US 10) needles

Basic Pat 2:
with 7 mm (US 10 ½) needles
Row 1 (WS): *P1, K1; rep from *.
Row 2: Knit.
Rep rows 1 and 2.

Full-Fashioned Decreases:
At RH side: 1 selvage st, K2, SKP (sl 1 knitwise, K1, pass slip st over K1)
At LH side: K2tog, K2, 1 selvage st

Instructions:
Back:
Cast on 76 (82/88) sts and work in Basic Pat 1. For the Side shaping, after 11 cm/4 ½” from beg, dec 1 st each side on next row and
every 8th row 4 times more. Work even until piece measures 33 cm/13” from beg. Inc 1 st each side on next row and every 10th row
2 times more = 72 (78/84) sts.
For the Armhole shaping, after 51 (50/49) cm/20 (19 ½ /19 ¼)” from beg, bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of next 2
rows and 1 st at beg of next 4 rows = 58 (64/70) sts.
For the Neck shaping, after 70 cm/27 ½” from beg, bind off the center 28 sts, and working both sides at once, bind off from each
neck edge 4 sts twice. After 73 cm/28 ¾” from beg, bind off rem 7 (10/13) sts each side for shoulders.
Left Front:
Cast on 8 (11/14) sts and work in Basic Pat 1. For the front curve, at end of 1

st

RS row, cast on 3 sts, and cont to cast on at same

edge 3 sts once, 2 sts 3 times and inc 1 st every 2

nd

row 4 times, every 4th row 3 times, every 6

th

row 2 times and every 8th row

once, At the same time, work side shaping at RH same as Back.
For the Neck shaping, after 41 cm/16” from beg, work Full-Fashioned dec at LH side every 4th row 14 times. At the same time, after
51 (50/49) cm/20 (19 ½ /19 ¼)” from beg, work Armhole shaping at RH same as Back. After 73 cm/28 ¾” from beg, bind off rem 7
(10/13) sts for shoulder.
Work Right Front to correspond, reversing shaping.
Sleeves:
Cast on 78 (82/86) sts and work in Rib Pat. Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 8 rows and 4 sts at beg of next 10 rows. Then bind off rem
14 (18/22) sts.
Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams. Set in Sleeves. The center of the Sleeves should be at the shoulder seams. Sew side seams. For the Cable
Border, with 7 mm (US 10 ½) needles, cast on 21 sts and work as foll: 7 sts Basic Pat 2, join another ball of yarn and work the next
7 sts in Basic Pat 2, join another ball of yarn and work the last 7 sts in Basic Pat 2. Work these 3 strips of 7 sts separately. When the
3 balls are used up, do not bind off the sts but braid the strips and sew along edge of vest. Cont to work strips separately until piece,
after braiding, fits around entire outside edge of vest, then sew rem border to vest. Sew both ends of border tog.
