Leicester Square in central London, where

film premières traditionally take place, has
undergone extensive renovation in recent
years. The works started in December

2010  and  Leicester  Square  reopened  in
May  2012,  just  before  the  2012  Summer
Olympics.  Although  the  makeover  cost

more than 15 million pounds, many people
have criticised the result. The square has

lost most of its unique features, such as the

statues and floor plaques with film star
names and their handprints. However, local
politicians are quite proud of the project.

Square is now better prepared to host future
film events, without having lost its original
