Cluster Stitch Baby Beanie

Newborn to 3 months size 

Hat height: 5.5-6 inches 

Hat circumference: 13-14 inches 

 

Gauge:  11 stitches = 4 inches 

 
 
I use a size J hook to match the gauge.  Be sure to check your gauge!   
I crochet a bit loose so you may need to use a larger hook size. 
Yarn used for item is "I Love This Yarn" Turquoise. 
You may use any medium weight, worsted 4ply yarn.   
 
 

Abbreviations: 
YO:  yarn over - Wrap yarn around hook. 
sp: "space" (gap)  for example: ch-3 sp 
Join: Ending each round with a slip stitch into the 1st stitch of the round. 
sl st: slip stitch - Insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop and pull through 1st loop on hook. 
sc:  single crochet - Insert hook into stitch, YO & pull up a loop, YO & pull through both 
loops on hook. 
hdc: half-double crochet - YO, insert hook into stitch, YO & pull up a loop, YO & pull 
through all 3 loops on hook. 
dc: double crochet- YO, insert hook into stitch, YO & pull up a loop, YO and pull through 
2 loops on hook, YO and pull through remaining 2 loops on hook. 

 
 
 
 

Stitches used for this pattern:    



  Beginning Cluster (uses one sp): 

Ch2, *YO, insert hook in same sp, YO and pull up a loop, YO and draw 
through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * 2 more times, YO and draw through 
all 4 loops on hook. 
 



  Cluster (uses one ch-3 or ch-2 sp): 

*YO, insert hook in space indicated, YO and pull up a loop, YO and draw 
through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * 3 more times, YO and draw through 
all 5 loops on hook. 
 
 
To begin pattern:  
Ch 4, join with sl st to form ring.  
  



  Round 1:  Ch 4, *dc in ring, ch 1*,  repeat from * to * 7 more times.  

Join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch-4.  (Makes 8 ch-1 spaces)  Sl 
st in 1st ch-1 sp.  
 



  Round 2:  Work Beginning Cluster, *ch 3, work Cluster in next ch-1 

sp*,  repeat from * to * around.  Ch 3, join with sl st to 1st st of 
previous round.  Sl st to next ch-3 sp. 
   



  Round 3:  Sc in ch-3 sp, ch 1.  Work Cluster in 1st ch-3 sp, ch 1, sc, 

*ch 3, sc, ch 1, work Cluster in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, sc*,  repeat from * 
to * around.  Join with sl st to 1st st of previous round. 
 



  Round 4:  Sl st to ch-3 sp.  Work Beg. Cluster, *ch 3, hdc in middle st 

of cluster from previous round, ch 3, work cluster in next ch-3 sp*,  
repeat from * to * around.  Join with sl st to 1st st of previous round.  
 



  Round 5:  (This is where the hat starts to curve down)  

Sl st to ch-3 sp, work Beg. Cluster, *ch 2, work Cluster in next ch-3 
sp*,  repeat from * to * around.  Join with sl st to 1st st of previous 
round. 
 



  Round 6:  Sl st to ch-2 sp, work Beg. Cluster, *ch 2, work Cluster in 

next ch-2 sp*,  repeat from * to * around.  Join with sl st to 1st st of 
previous round.   
 



  Rounds 7-12:  Repeat Round 6  

 



  Round 13:  Sc in each st and ch-2 sp around.  Join with sl st an end 

of round.  Fasten off and weave in loose ends.
