Remember The Sabbath Day

"Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all His work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done." (Genesis 2:1-3) (see The Seven Days Of Creation)

"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to The Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days The Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but He rested on the seventh day. Therefore The Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy." (Exodus 20:8-11) (see The Ten Commandments and What Is Sin?)

"Then The Lord said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'You must observe My Sabbaths. This will be a sign between Me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I Am The Lord [see Rock Of Ages], Who makes you holy. "'Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it must be put to death; whoever does any work on that day must be cut off from his people. For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to The Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death. The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. It will be a sign between Me and the Israelites forever, for in six days The Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He abstained from work and rested.'" (Exodus 31:12-17)

"They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. The people were amazed at His teaching, because He taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law." (Mark 1:21-22) (Note: The photograph shows the restored remains of the synagogue at Capernaum - where Jesus Christ attended every Sabbath, and where the event described in the above verse actually occurred).

"From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem. From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath they entered the synagogue and sat down. After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue rulers sent word to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have a message of encouragement for the people, please speak." (Acts 13:13-15) (see Paul's First Missionary Journey and
Paul's Second Missionary Journey. Also
Paul's Third Missionary Journey and Paul In Athens)

"As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath. When the congregation was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God. On the next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear The Word of The Lord." (Acts 13:42-44)

"They will proclaim My Glory among the nations. And they will bring all your brothers, from all the nations, to My holy mountain in Jerusalem as an offering to The Lord - on horses, in chariots and wagons, and on mules and camels," says The Lord. "They will bring them, as the Israelites bring their grain offerings, to The Temple of The Lord in ceremonially clean vessels. And I will select some of them also to be priests and Levites," says The Lord. "As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before Me," declares The Lord, "so will your name and descendants endure. From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before Me," says The Lord." (Isaiah 66:19-23) (see The Kingdom of God)
