If I tell setup to install the new BDE in the directory where my current one resides, will it detect the current one and give me the option of NOT installing the new one over it? If it won't do this (i.e., if it WILL overwrite my current BDE), should I install the new BDE in a separate directory from my current one, thereby having two BDE directories? I would think the latter option could spell trouble.
Answer:
The BDE DLLs in C++Builder are BDE 3.5, and are part of IntraBuilder 1.01 and are certified for use with Delphi 2.01; it is safe to install over your existing BDE.
Also, you can choose to install it to a different directory; this is the recommended course if you have Delphi 3.0. If you do this, you need to be able to adjust the BDE registry settings to switch back and forth between versions.
