1 - RECOMMENDATION BEFORE BLEEDING A BRAKE CIRCUIT
IMPERATIVE : use only clean fluid free from bubbles, avoid any introduction of impurities into the hydraulic system .
IMPERATIVE : use only approved and recommended hydraulic fluid(s) : DOT 4 .
IMPERATIVE : during the bleeding operation: keep the fluid topped up in the reservoir .
2 - BLEEDING OF THE ESP PRE-CHARGE PUMP HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT
2 - 1 - DESCRIPTION OF THE ESP PRE-CHARGE PUMP HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT
(1)Reservoir .
(2) Pre-charge pump .
(3) Low pressure pipe (intake) .
(4) High pressure pipe (discharge) .
(5) Master cylinder .
2 - 2 - COMPULSORY BLEEDING OF THE ESP PRE-CHARGE PUMP HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT
Bleeding the main circuit does not permit bleeding of the esp pre-charge pump hydraulic circuit .
Thus, air may be pushed into the main circuit during operation of the esp pre-charge pump, Therefore, it is essential to Bleed the esp pre-charge pump hydraulic circuit .
Bleed the circuit, In the following cases :
opening of the ESP pre-charge pump hydraulic circuit
opening of the circuit between the master cylinder and the hydraulic unit
presence of air in the master cylinder
periodic replacement of the brake fluid
replace the brake fluid reservoir
2 - 3 - BLEEDING
BLEED THE MAIN CIRCUIT UNDER PRESSURE .
NOTE : bleeding the main circuit does not permit bleeding of the esp pre-charge pump hydraulic circuit, to complete the bleed procedure, the esp pre-charge pump must be operated using the diag 2000 .
Connect the diagnostic equipment DIAG 2000 to the diagnostic socket, then follow the instructions .
3 - BLEEDING OF THE ESP OR ABS SYSTEM HYDRAULIC UNIT
3 - 1 - INDICATION
As the hydraulic units are supplied charged with brake fluid, it is not necessary to activate the solenoid valves to bleed the hydraulic units .
IF, HOWEVER, THE BLEEDING OF THE CIRCUIT IS NOT SATISFACTORY, CARRY OUT ANOTHER BLEED PROCEDURE UNDER PRESSURE AND THEN BLEED THE HYDRAULIC UNIT USING THE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BY THE EQUIPMENT (There may still be some air near the hydraulic unit solenoid valves) .
3 - 2 - BLEEDING OF THE HYDRAULIC UNIT
BLEED THE MAIN CIRCUIT UNDER PRESSURE .
Connect the diagnostic equipment DIAG 2000 to the diagnostic socket, then follow the instructions .
4 - BRAKE CIRCUIT DRAINING - FILLING
Remove the filter from the brake fluid reservoir .
Drain the brake fluid reservoir using a clean syringe .
Refit the brake fluid reservoir filter .
Renew the brake fluid in the calipers by bleeding the circuit until clean fluid flows out . DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL
Bleed the esp pre-charge pump hydraulic circuit using the diag 2000 diagnostic equipment . ALL MODELS 5 - BLEEDING UNDER PRESSURE (FIRST BLEED PROCEDURE)
5 - 1 - SPECIAL TOOLS
[1] CMBB-T935 R type pressurising equipment .
5 - 2 - BLEEDING
Refer to the instructions for use of the equipment [1] .
Connect the equipment [1] to the brake fluid reservoir .
Place the brake fluid under pressure (between 2 and 2.5 bars) .
IMPERATIVE : start the engine .
Order for opening the bleed screws .
(A) : BREMBO caliper (At the front) .
(B) : LUCAS caliper (At the front) .
Open the left front bleed screw (1) .
WARNING : the calliper BREMBO has 2 bleed screws : start bleeding with the bleed screw on the steering wheel side .
Bleed, pressing the brake pedal slowly and fully several times accompanying the pedal return slowly .
Carry out approximately 10 pumping cycles per front bleed screw .
NOTE : the calliper BREMBO has 2 bleed screws ; carry out 10 pumping cycles for each bleed screw starting with the bleed screw on the steering wheel side .
Close the bleed screw when the fluid flows clean and free of bubbles .
Proceed in the same way for the other bleed screws following the order specified ( See diagram) .
Carry out approximately 15 pumping cycles per rear bleed screw . DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL
IF BLEEDING OF THE ESP PRE-CHARGE PUMP HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT IS NECESSARY, USE THE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT DIAG 2000 . ALL MODELS
IF BLEEDING OF THE HYDRAULIC UNIT IS NECESSARY, USE THE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT DIAG 2000 .
When bleeding of the braking circuit is complete :
disconnect the equipment [1] from the brake fluid reservoir
press the brake pedal firmly 4 times
Check the pedal travel .
If the travel is long and spongy, repeat the bleed procedure .
6 - MANUAL BLEEDING (AT THE PEDAL) (SECOND BLEED PROCEDURE)
WARNING : do not use this method for vehicles fitted with the esp system .
IMPERATIVE : start the engine .
Order for opening the bleed screws .
A : BREMBO caliper (At the front) .
B : LUCAS caliper (At the front) .
Two operators are necessary .
Connect a transparent pipe to the left front bleed screw (1) .
Open the bleed screw .
WARNING : the calliper BREMBO has 2 bleed screws : start bleeding with the bleed screw on the steering wheel side .
IMPERATIVE : press the brake pedal slowly .
Hold the pedal fully down .
Close the bleed screw .
Slowly accompany the brake pedal return .
Repeat the operation until the brake fluid runs out clean and free from bubbles .
Proceed in the same way for the other bleed screws following the order specified (See diagram) .
IF BLEEDING OF THE ESP PRE-CHARGE PUMP HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT IS NECESSARY, USE THE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT DIAG 2000 .
When bleeding of the braking circuit is complete, Press the brake pedal firmly 4 times .
