Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis
Movie for broad-band (300kbps)
Patient position:
Sitting, with the elbow fully flexed (patient
should lean forward on the table to flex the
elbow), forearm in slightly less than full
pronation, and resting on the table for
stabilization and support. Extend the wrist to
the radial side. Allow the fingers to flex as the
wrist is extended. Elbow flexion makes the
extensor carpi radialis longus less effective
by being in a shortened position, thus
isolating the extensor carpi radialis brevis.
Examiner pressure:
Against the dorsum of the hand along the 2nd
and 3rd metacarpal bones in the direction of
flexion toward the ulnar side.
Check on the radio button that best describes your test results. If the numeric grade is lower
than 5, click on the NEXT button located on the bottom right hand corner of this page, and
proceed to the Tape Specification Section.
