Using a fine screen to underprint an illustration, perhaps in color, can be an effective way to spice up a page of type. (Be careful to maintain proper contrast!) A giant letter or figure, properly screened, can be both dramatic and powerful. Likewise, the use of an enlarged screen, perhaps by blowing up a section of a halftone illustration, is an effective technique with its dramatic, bold dot size.
