Light-guide removal Tool Flip Opening Tool
Light-Guide Removal
" Using Light-guide extraction tool, align pin of tool with left-hand side gap of
battery retention clip at the top right hand side of the battery compartment.
(Ensure not to damage clip)
Battery retention
clip
Insertion Point
" Place the body of the tool flush with the right hand edge of the battery
compartment and flat to the battery bed; slowly push the tool in the direction of
the light-guide. Any deviation from this movement and position can result in
damage to the flex connector
Light Guide
Direction of
pressure on
light guide
" Once pressure is felt against the tool, ensure that a guard is placed to stop the
guide from getting lost, then push firmly against the guide keeping the body of the
tool flush with the housing till the guide comes out. (If the guide does not come
out then extract it with snips).
" Fully retract pin before the tool is lifted from the housing. Ensure no damage has
occurred to battery retention clip.
Antenna Removal
" Cover the antenna with the tool, ensuring to cover the antenna collar, then squeeze
the open ends of the tool until the grip on the antenna is tight.
Antenna Opening
Tool
" Rotate the unit in an anti-clockwise direction, until the antenna can be removed by
hand.
" Once removed the insert must be removed from the antenna by prizing the small
plastic flaps at the bottom of the collar away from the antenna and a new collar
must be used (See Assembly procedure), the antenna can be re-used.
Antenna
Collar
Transceiver Opening
" Using the plastic tool, once the antenna and light guide are removed. Place the
unit on its rear.
" Whilst pushing on the antenna mount, insert the flat
end of the plastic tool between the housing and each
of the 4 catches to release the rear housing.
" When all 4 catches are released, remove the rear housing
from the antenna end of the transceiver at an angle.
PCB Removal
" Using the flat end of the plastic tool, lift the black Zif connector gate. (If this gate
breaks the whole connector must be replaced).
" Once the gate is open use the thinnest edge of the pliers parallel with the PCB to
firmly grip the flex and carefully withdraw. THE FLEX IS VERY FRAGILE.
Tool Location
guides
" Make sure the ends of all the flex traces enter or leave the ZIF simultaneously.
Otherwise it is possible to create new, intermittent shorts between traces; see the
attached photo below which illustrates this point.
Shorts caused by
incorrect insertion /
extraction of flex
" For H03 Flex use the tool location guidelines for correct extraction.
" Again using the plastic tool lever the PCB from the front housing, antenna end
first.
Keyboard Removal
" Using the flat end of the plastic tool carefully slide it between the main PCB and
the keyboard to break the glue bond and separate the two.
" Remove all left over glue deposits from both the keyboard and the main PCB.
Flip Opening
" Insert the flip opening tool with the curved edge against the knuckle of the phone.
Prize the flip upwards. Repeat on other side.
" Insert the long end of the tool between the gap created by the flip opener and
rotate tool by 90 eg. To prize the rest of the flip open.
Kramer Assembly Procedure
Tools Required:
Flex Insertion Pliers Antenna Collar Torque bit Torque Screwdriver
1. Fit Mic to PCB, support-locating support on underside of board, ensure correct orientation of
Mic. If incorrect the Mic will overhang the PCB.
2. Fit Mic grommet.
3. Place keyboard on to main PCB, If new keypad then ensure removal of
adhesive tape from the rear of the keyboard. Ensure the two boards are parallel
before the connectors are joined.
4. Ensure volume buttons and alert grommets are in place in the front housing.
5. Placed front housing assembly flat on a workbench and place the keypad into
the front housing.
6. Align the keyboard and PCB into the front housing, buttplug end first and
push home, ensure board stays clear of volume buttons. Check location of
buttplug to ensure board is fully pushed down.
7. Open Zif connector, then using specified pliers push flex home (ensure pliers
are as parallel top PCB as possible.) Ensure flex is flush against connector.
For HO3 use white guide lines for tool location and insertion depth guide.
Make sure the ends of all the flex traces enter or leave the ZIF simultaneously.
Otherwise it is possible to create new, intermittent shorts between traces; see the
attached photo below which illustrates this point.

removal / insertion.
8. Close Zif connector.
9. Ensure grey poron pad covers the bottom 4 pins at the rear of the Zif
connector or the new type rear housing with angled bracket is fitted. (Same
Part Number)

10. Fit the rear housing to the unit, bottom first, and ensure all 4 snaps are fully
located and closed.
11. Refer to Quality Procedure Part I.
12. Fit antenna collar to unit and torque to 0.14Nm.
13. Push antenna into collar. Ensure sound fit.
14. Clear dust from display with ionised air and fit lens.
15. Fit light guide (see diagram)
The flat edge of the light guide should sit
flush with the edge within the locating hole.
