Spring Pin Flower
By Helga Dharmpaul
Materials Required:
Tracing paper.
Single pricking tool or needle pressed into a cork.
Clear adhesive tape.
Madeira Glissen Gloss Sterling.
Madeira Metallic 305 Green.
Astro 4 Multicolour.
Card mount - DF03U.
To Make The Card:
Trace the dots onto the tracing paper or make
a photocopy. Place the central panel of the card
on an embossing pad or some folded kitchen roll.
Place the traced design onto the face of the card.
Actual Size
Make sure that the card is unfolded and take care
to position the design centrally. Use a little mask-
ing tape to hold it in position, it is important
that it does not move while you are pricking the
design. Using the needle or pricking tool, pierce
a hole through the pattern and card at each dot.
Using Gold stitch the trumpet of the daffodil.
Fix the end of the thread to the wrong side of the
card with a small piece of clear tape. Follow the
diagram on the next page to determine which
hole to start with and using back stitch (see
diagram below) work round the trumpet flutes
until all the holes are filled.
14
Work each petal in turn using Gold thread,
once again use the diagram to determine which
hole to start with, and continue until all the
holes are used. Outline the edges of the petals
with back stitch.
Stitch the leaves in Green using the same
method as the petals, but do not outline them.
Continue using Green thread to work the
stem. Start at the bottom right of the stem as
shown on the diagram and continue to the top.
Start again at the bottom left and work up the
stem, stitch across the first row of stitches to
make a criss cross pattern.
Using Astro 4 , work the border design
beginning at the hole shown and take
the thread back in at the fifteenth hole.

is worked, by bringing the

at hole 2 and then up at hole 3

and down at 4, etc., continuing
until all the holes are used. This applies
regardless of the shape being worked.
Actual Size
As an alternative, cut out the shape of the flower, leaves
and stem from coloured card and stick them onto an
offcut of card. Stitch the design around the shapes. This
card has double sided sticky pads between the layers
of coloured card to give a 3D effect.
