Patient position:
Prone with shoulder abducted to 90 degrees
and elbow flexed to 90 degrees. Laterally
rotate the shoulder to 90 degrees so the palm
is parallel to the floor. (Seated position shown
is not antigravity and allows for poor
stabilization of scapulothoracic muscles). The
humerus rests on the table. The examiner
places one hand under the arm near the
elbow to ensure a rotation action by
preventing adduction or abduction as well as
cushioning the upper arm against pressure
from the table.
Examiner pressure:
Using the forearm as a lever, pressure is
applied in the direction of medially rotating
the humerus.
