How to use software of Ethernet packet capture to capture WAN port packets?

This network diagram is template for Ethernet WAN packet capture and suitable for using on any NAT device.

The software of Ethernet packet capture, you can refer to URL http://www.wireshark.org/ and download it, that is free software.

After all done the environment building and installed software on Laptop, we can start capturing packets.

As network diagram laptop part mentioned, start capture packets before the device power on and then end capture after WAN PPPoE connection encountered problem.

Execute software of Wireshark., select items Capture Options

Select your Ethernet NIC which is your Laptop's NIC model, in this template my Laptop's NIC model is Realtek 10/100/1000. Then click start.

After device power on and WAN PPPoE connection negotiating, you will get whole relevant packets information.

Refer to network diagram in PC part, you can enter into device WEB management(http://192.168.0.1), and keep to check status item to see if WAN PPPoE connection disconnected or not.

Please keep to capturing until stop when WAN PPPoE connection encounter fail.
