Treatment and Supervision of Cargo - Paper Carriers

1.

Purpose

Schiffahrtskontor tom Wörden GmbH & Co. KG's vessels are used for transporting cargo. Part of the quality performance we offer is to ensure that cargo is transported in such a manner that it is not damaged during transport.

Paper carriers are sophisticated, highly specialised vessels, specially adapted for the transport of such a highly sensitive cargo as "paper". It is therefore particularly important that all operations are carried out under controlled conditions.

2.

Application

This Documented Procedure applies on all paper carrying vessels of Schiffahrtskontor tom Wörden GmbH & Co. KG.

3.

Definitions and Abbreviations (refer to VA-001)

4.

Responsibilities

The Cargo Officer is responsible for organising and supervising handling and supervision of cargo during a voyage. Designated crew members are responsible for its actual handling and supervision.

5.

Description of Routines

Where weather conditions allow, cargo is inspected regularly (every day) during a voyage. In particular lashing wires / ropes and air bags are inspected and adjusted accordingly where need be.

Cargo holds should only be entered upon instruction, with due care and attention being paid to the safety measures applicable.

Packages / rolls are also checked for damage, particularly during periods of bad weather.

Cargo holds are checked for moisture. Cargo hold bilges are kept empty. Particular attention is paid in case sweat water forms on bulkheads of filled ballast tanks, the tanks being emptied if need be, while still taking the ship's stability and free surfaces into account. Cargo holds are aired / ventilated as required or aeration / drying plants turned on. Smoke alarms should be turned on and monitored.

Attention should be paid to special instructions from the Charterer.
