System I

When a character loses Essence, it can have a very serious effect on his psyche and soul. The normal human starts being (mutated or not) starts out with 6.00 points of Essence. From 6.00 to 4.00 in Essence, there is no risk of loosing your sanity… but from then on chummer - be careful! You might just slip over the Edge!

From 3.99 to 0.00 in Essence, the chance of falling increases. Each time you lose Essence, make a roll against 6+(new Essence rating, round down). No Karma can increase your chances here chummer-san! If the roll is successful, nothing happens - you just got lucky this time chummer!

If the roll was unsuccessful however, you fell over the Edge. Immediately roll 3d+(the amount by which your roll failed) and consult the table below…

Gain Insecure on Quirk level. This allows characters to gain more than the usual 5 points of quirks

Gain the Edgy disadvantage worth -5 points

11-12

Gain the Paranoia disadvantage worth -10 points

13-14

Gain the Bad Temper disadvantage worth -10 points

15

Gain a related Phobia on Mild level, worth at least -10 points.

16

Gain the Berserk disadvantage worth -15 points

17

Gain the Trigger Happy disadvantage worth -15 points

18+

Gain On The Edge disadvantage worth -15 points

System II

Every time a character loses Essence, let him roll a Fright-(Essence lost, round up). If the roll fails, follow the standard procedure for Fright Checks (p. B94).
