why can watching TV be harmful?
Television is the most widespread form of communication in the world.Television has a variety of applications in society, business and science. The most common use of television is as a source of information and entertainment for viewers in their homes.
Many people set up their lifestyles and activities around a TV program schedule. They wake up with TV, eat with it and can't even go to sleep until they have watched their favourite programme. TV stops people from talking. Family relationship are weakened, because instead of exchanging opinions and expressing themselves, people sit in silence and have their eyes glued to the TV set. Television also has a negative impact on children. They are exposed to silly nonsensical cartoons or brutal films which are full of violence. They waste their time watching programmes which don't teach them anything and which are merely chweing gum for their eyes. Moreover, they are easily influenced by commercials. Advertising encourages children to buy sweets, hanburgers and toys. Often they just sit in front of the TV set instead of going out to jog or play some sport. Television can be like a drug. Those people who are already addicted, forget about everything else. They can sit and watch TV all the time, because they have nothing better to do. The lifes of Soap opera characters are more interesting than their own. They can sit in a comfortable armchair and turn the set on and turn the brain off. But the most amazing thing of all is that they seem to be completely satisfied with their passive enjoyment.
