Once the whole shuttle is beyond the top thread, bring it down and then back through the loop - also through the loop hanging (the right hand fingers can release the thread here)
Fig. 9
As before, you will see the stitch being formed with the light thread so relax the middle finger of the left hand and at the same time puli the shuttle thread taut (and keep it taut) - the stitch will transfer (if it didn't, give the shuttle a little jerk).
Complete as for the first half of the double stitch. MAKE SURĘ YOU KEEP THE SHUTTLE THREAD TAUT UN-TIL THE TRANSFERRED STITCH IS RIGHT BESIDE THE PREVIOUS HALF!

There! You double stitch!

Tatted lace is madę up of double stitches so practice them until you are completely satisfied that you are trans-ferring the stitches everv time. Failure to transfer will re-sult in locked stitches - they won’t slide on the running thread - and you won’t be able to make rings.
Keep repeating the double stitches and when you have them down pat, cut off and discard your practice piece. If you had been using a single thread of one color, you would have been able to puli the double stitches (if madę correctly) into a ring; but sińce there is a knot tying the two colors together, this is not possible. SO just cut off your practice piece.
Let’s continue. Puli out a couple of yards of light thread from the shuttle (this will now be the “bali” thread) and form a loop around your left hand leaving a space of about 10 inches between the left-hand loop and the shuttle. (The “bali” will be hanging down.)
There won’t be a knot to hołd this time. BUT just hołd -between thumb and first finger - where the threads come together (also called the ‘pinch'). This time we are going
