crease. This corresponds to the proximal edge of the transverse carpal ligamcnt or flexor retinaculum, the
tough fascial tissue that forms the roof of the carpal tun-nel. If the cxaminer continues to palpate distally along the longitudinal interthenar skin crease, the tissues are noted to soften again when the palpating finger reaches the dis-tal edge of the transverse carpal ligament. The distance between the proximal and the distal edges of the palmar aponeurosis is usually about 3 cm.
To the ulnar side of the palmaris longus tendons, the flexor digitorum profundus and the flexor digitorum superficialis tendons traversc to the carpal tunnel.
