Wlieii Are Indefinite Articles Used in Spanish?

In some situations the use of the indefinite articles in English and Spanish is equivalent. Use the indefinite articles:

•    to refer to one individual in a generał group.

Una sinfoma es una obra de arte.    A symphony is a work of art.

That is, among many works of art, una sinfoma stands out as an example.

•    to identify a person with a noun indicating his or her personal qualities.

Eres un angel.    You are an angel.

Ellos siempre han sido unos cobardes. They have always been cowards.

•    to indicate an approximate amount with numbers and quantities.

La bolsa cuesta mios cincuenta euros. The bag costs about fifty euro s.

En esta caja hay mias tres docenas    There are about three dozen roses in this box.

Notę: Feminine nouns that begin with a stressed a or ha (agua, aguila) take a masculine indefinite (or definite) article in the singular form. However, because they are feminine nouns, they take feminine adjectives.
