b 1 2 INTRODUCTORY CHANGES

in addition to modifications associaled with changing the shape of the hull the followmg changes were introduced start mg with the first Ausf G chassis

•    Hmged hatches for the driver and radio operator

•    Installation of a pivotmg. traversable penscope for the driver and deletion ot the dnver s visor

•    Stepped embrasure to reduce bullet splash m the aper-turę of the armored guard for the machmegun bali mount on the glacis piąte

•    Redesigned ventilator cowl under the travel lock

•    Smgle headhght mounted directly above the left fender

•    Redesigned rear deck fitted withm the superstructure sides featurmg redesigned louvres. covers for the carburetor air mtake a cowl over the engme compartment air mtake. a new fuel filier cap. a radiator overflow dram. and repositioned antenna base

•    Redesigned engme exhaust. brakes. and transmission ventiiation system elimmatmg the need for the two paraltel pipes for engme exhaust coolmg mounted on the exhaust pipę

•    Ammumtion stowage mcreased to 82 mam gun rounds Dust covers consistmg of two slidmg doors of approximateiy 4 mm thickness closed off the ammumtion racks m each spon-son

•    When outfitted as a Befehls-Panther ammumtion stowage for the mam gun was reduced to 64 rounds due to the room needed for the auxiliary electrical generator GG 400 for the extra radio sets

•    Revised tooi and equipment stowage arrangement on the superstructure sides New tools and equipment mcluded a longer wooden błock as a base for the jack and thicker. longer tow cables (32 mm diameter. 8 2 meters long)

•    Schuerzen side skms fastened to a fender extendmg the length of the superstructure sides

•    Relocation and modification of the mounts for the shock absorbers

5 2 PRODUCTION

On 16 August 1943. the Waffenamt responded to Krupp on when the entzwickelte (dewedged 1 e straightened) hull for the Panther l would enter production A proposal had been presented to Direktor Dr Rohland. the head of the Haupt-ausschusses Panzerwagen und Zugmaschinen to mitiate production of Panthers with the entzwickelte hull startmg with number 2801 lf and when production of the entzwickelte hull was to start hung on a decision by the Panzerkommission that was to occur at the end of August Before it became known
