The phased-construction airport is technologically advanced, operationally efficient, passenger-friendly, cost-effective, and sets a ncw standard for international airports in Asia. The design blends advanced technology with elements traditional in Korean architecture— harmony with naturę, order and spatial hierarchy, and the use of natural light.
The cohesiveness of the complex, which includes the terminal, control tower, airport access roads, rapid transit system, and International Business Center (IBC), is critical to its success. The IBC concept, one of the most innovative strategies of the overall airport master plan, incorporates numerous passenger amenities including convention center/exhibition buildings, retail galleria, a hotel, conference halls, together with office space and research and development facilities.
The Phase I design consolidates the airside terminal and transportation/ Processing functions into one building, and includes the rapid transit system and bus station. The terminaTs curved form facilitates futurę expansion without disruption of airport operations.
