Occasionally, l’ve even been blessed with a free movie ticket or an oil change for my car or something else that l’ll actually use. But you know what? It's usually a one-time thing-a rare respite from our “no free lunch” society. But while there might not be such a thing as a free lunch, free comics are very much a reality. Once a year, the entire comic industry bands together to bring free comics to the people of North America and beyond. Comic retailers, publishers, creators and distributors work their magie and the end result is free comics for you, no strings attached. And with a variety of materiał from a vast array of publishers, Free Comic Book Day surely offers something for everyone, whether they're old or young, a die-hard comic fan or a casual graphic novel reader.

And what’s even morę amazing is that this isn’t a one-time deal.

No, sir. Free Comic Book Day is an annual event, five years strong, and we’re not looking to stop it anytime soon. Now,

I know what you’re thinking—“Since when does a couple of free comics equal an event? This isn’t like Mardi Gras or Oprah's birthday party or anything.” But that’s where you’re wrong! Free Comic Book Day is a fuli fledged holiday that sports a variety of events including signings, parties, creator work-shops, and morę. On Free Comic Book Day many comic shops become veritable carnivals!

Here at Oni Press we’re celebrating with Free Scott P/lgrlm! You may know Scott as the star of his own hit graphic novel series or you may know him as the guy who’s been sleeping on your couch for longer than you can remember. Bryan Lee 0'Malley’s slacker hero is trying to cement a relationship with the girl of his dreams-unfortunately for him, her seven evi! ex-boyfriends are determined to keep them apart. It’ll take all of Scott’s charm, intelligence, and killer fighting moves to keep the exes at bay. But a party just isn’t a party if we only invite Scott Pilgrim and a couple of his friends. To really get things rocking, we added a Mr. Fearless Griggs to the guest list, too. The creation of cartoonist Andy Helms, Griggs is the greatest adventurer of the 19th century and he's working on taking that title for the 20th century as well! Over a hun-dred years old, but still as spry as a teenager, Griggs combines the raw fun and excitement of comics like Mikę Mignola’s Hellboy with the zany Victorian setting of Alan Moore’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen for adventures that are simultaneously crazy, classic, mind-bending, and modern.
