{Shuttle Tatters: tat the chain, using a darninę needle as ifit were a shuttle. It should be threaded with about a halfyard ofthread from the shuttle on the short side ofthe split rings. When the pattern calls for a + (join) do not do a normal tatting join. Puli the carrying thread up through the picot, and then continue making DS according to the pattern.}

Ch 4 +(to p of next SpR) 5+ (to p of next SpR) 5 +(to p of next SpR) 4 do not join. (lllus. #2 above)

**{Needle Tatters: Put the bali thread under the rings and the needle thread over the rings. Make your first ds as close to the rings as possible.}

Butterfly Wings -Trefoil Knots
Begin with an open ended chain. First Trefoil knot
Ch 20-20-20
Weave the Trefoil Knot, as shown in lllus. #5. Remove the paper clip and join into that smali loop. {Shuttle tatters: it is best to use a smali crochet hook or needle to join it.}
{Needle tatters: just run the needle through to join it.}
Continue tatting, second Trefoil knot.
Ch 20 - 20 - 20
Weave the Trefoil Knot, as shown in lllus. # 6 above. Join to the same place as before, where the paper clip was removed.Tie but leave about 8 inches so you can attach it to the body. One side completed.
Tie the Trefoil knots to the body around the picot as shown in lllus. #7 above. Pass the thread under and over the picot then with both threads tie a square knot. Work the ends into the tatting. Cut close to the work.
For the other Wing repeat the First and Second Trefoil knot above. Refer to lllus. #8 on the next page.
