7.    Mask and paint second border yellow. Sponge coral on outer edge of border to shade. Draw randomly sized bricks on border. Paint bricks rosę, pink. and [yellow. Use stencil brush to stipple shading on bricks with coral. Outline bricks with permanent pen.

8.    Mask and paint third border black. Paint white dots |on black border.

9.    Apply sealer to labie.

Rug

'(ardages are based on 44/45'V fabric.

You will need a 48" x 71" sisal rug, 3 yds green fabric. il5 yds of ‘//w pink gimp trim. acetate for stencil, craft knife and cutting mat. fabric glue. straight pins. 57* yds of 7Av black checked ribbon. black acrylic paint, stencil brush. and freezer paper.

I. Mark a pencil linę 5" from edges of rug.

■1. Cut six 49" lengths. four 39W lengths. and four 21" lengths of trim. Place one 49" length diagonally through center of rug. so that ends touch pencil linę; glue. using pins to hołd trim in place until dry Glue one 49" length 9" from each side of center trim. Follow fig. I to glue two 39'/j" lengths. then two 21" lengths rug. Repeat to glue remaining lengths to rug in cpposite direction.

5.    Turn borders over to paint on the wider side. Enlarge pattern, page 71. 143%; enlarge patterns. page 73, 154% on photocopier. Tracę onto acetate; use craft knife to cut out stencil. Read Painting Deslgns, pages 93 94. Use stencil brush to paint flowers and leaves black. Remove freezer paper.

6.    Sandwich long sides of rug between long borders. Glue borders to rug. covering trim ends. When dry, glue borders to rug back. Repeat with short borders on short sides of rug. Trim ariy excess fabric on wrong side of mg.

7.    Glue checked ribbon to rug. covcring inner edges of borders and folding ends of ribbon diagonally to form mitered corners.

I Cut two 12" x 75" and two 12" x 52" fabric strips for rorders. piecing as necessary.
