9 Explain that Ss will give directions from the station. Ask one or two Ss to choose a place on the map and try and direct you. Follow the directions and see where you arrive. If the Ss have difficulty, give further practice by directing them yourself to a few places. Ss can then choose five places to direct a partner to.
Ask Ss to choose a destination in the local area (hospital, cinema etc.) and to write it on a slip of paper. Collect the papers and redistribute them. Each student should now move around the room to ask for directions to this place from the school. Introduce the phrase l'm sorry, im afraid l don 't know. This should preview the writing in Exercise 10.
10 Some Ss may benefit from writing directions to a place on the map instead of or as well as local directions.
7 a 1.43 Explain that Ss should listen and underline the words that are stressed. They may need to listen twice. Once they have the correct stresses, ask them to chorally repeat the sentences with the correct rhythm.
