HOSTS File

The HOSTS file is a text file that contains IP address-to-host name mappings.

The folłowing list describes the HOSTS file:

resolve a host

name to an IP address on both local and remote networks.

^In Windows XP Professional, the HOSTS file can also be used to resolve

NetBIOS names if necessary.

jfThe HOSTS file can be edited with any text editor. When first viewing the

HOSTS file, its content is empty. It requires an administrator to add entries.
