WARSAW UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
The team behind the WUT Yeast Collection are DSc. Jolanta Mierzejewska and PhD Eng. Karolina Chreptowicz, scientists working at the Chair of Drug and Cosmetics Biotechnology, Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University of Technology in Poland.
Jolanta Mierzejewska has been working as an Assistant Professor at Chair of Drug and Cosmetics Biotechnology, Faculty of Chemistry WUT sińce September 2011, where she set up a Microbiology and Bioengineering research group. Mierzejewska received her M.Sc. in Microbiology from Warsaw University, the
Faculty of Biology (2002) and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics PAS (2008). After Ph.D. studies, she served as a Postdoc at the IB3 PAS for 2,5years. Mierzejewska received a postdoctoral degree in 2019 in Biotechnology from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology. Her research contributions are in the field of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology. She is currently focused on the development of bioproduction of various compounds, e. g. natural aromas and colorants which might be used as additives in cosmetics. Mierzejewska has authored 27 peer-reviewed journal publications, 3 patents and 1 book. She is a member of the Polish Society of Microbiology, the Federation of European Microbiological Societies and the European Federation of Biotechnology. She received an award from the Scientific Council of the IBB PAS for the best doctoral dissertation in 2008. She was a laureate of the Bridge Programme of the Foundation for Polish Science granted in 2013. Mierzejewska currently serves as a lecturer of Biotechnology, and General and Applied Microbiology, as well as an advisor of M.Sc., Eng. and Ph.D. diplomas.
Karolina Chreptowicz is a member of Microbiology and Bioengineering Group and works at the Faculty of Chemistry WUT. She obtained BSc (2013) and then MSc (2014) degree at the Faculty of Chemistry WUT in the field of Industrial Biotechnology. She was a scholar of the Foundation for Polish Science for the project "Interplay between glucose metabolism and RNA Polimerase III activity". In 2016-2017 she received a Special Scholarship for young scientists of Warsaw Chemical Consortium within the KNOW program. In 2016 she has attended Training Course on Biotechnology Application in Food Industries in China (Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin) organized by China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries. In 2018, she finished her Ph.D. in the field of Biotechnology at Chair of Drug and Cosmetics Biotechnology. After completing her doctorate, she had a month internship in Milan Ćertik group (Slovak University of Technology, Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Institute of Biotechnology) underthe EUROCAROTEN program. Chreptowicz has authored 9 peer-reviewed journal publications, 2 patents and 1 book. She is a member of the Federation of European Microbiological Societies and the European Federation of Biotechnology. Her research interest concerns yeast biotechnology and engineering technology. She has been managing projects on production of 2-phenylethanol (rosę aroma) and natural carotenoid pigments in yeasts. Her scientific interests also include the topie of yeast hybrids.
