PRODUCTIVITY AND COST OF WOOD HARVESTING

OF THE CHOSEN COMPLEX CUTTINGS SYSTEMS ON THE LOWLAND

Abstract. Four technological processes of wood harvesting in the shelterwood or selection cutling melhods on lowland were investigated in four mixed stands, two of which were with majority of Scots pine and other Iwo - of European beech. In the two processes short-wood (cut-to-length) method was used while the whole-stem system in the other two. In all cases the chain saw was used for felling and other technological operations. Forwarder and skidder were than appliedfor wood harvesting while the distances between the strip roads ec/ualed to 30 and 60 m. HighestproductMty (18. I-I6.4 m³/8 machinehours due to the extraction distance 100-1000 m) and the lowest unit cost (26.1-34.2 z!/m^s) were obtained for the cut-to-length method with the application of the forwarder and the 30 m distance between the strip roads. The lowest productMty (14,0-10,8 m³/8 machinehours) and the highest unit cost (3 7.7-62,6 zl/m³) were obtained for the whole-stem method with the application of the skidder and the 60 m distance between the strip roads. For this method of wood extraction the difference of the analyzed parameters, due to 30 or 60 m distance between the strip roads, were not significant.
