2 Background

2.1 Cellular Networks

There are many ways to setup a telecom network and throughout history there have been many yersions of networks that have been, is in and is planned to be taken into use. One of these networks is the GSM network ², for which the HLR is implemented. The GSM network is a cellular network used for communication. It is called cellular because the geographical area of operation is divided into cells. Each celi is served by one or morę base station, which is a transceiver (both receiver and transmitter) for radio signals. The Figurę 1 shows a simplified view of the cells.
