Sophomore performance in the confcr ence race duplicated the record ot the 1987 Soph team whicheventually went on to present HLR with their lirst siatę cham pionship.
The 1989 Soph went 8-1 and demonstrat* ed solid ly that they had what it t.ikes to repeat their predecessor s success.
The lost to Providence. the last gamę oi the season, provided <t point to come back from for the next year.
The sophomores were so impressive that Coach Gary Korhonen moved three soph players up to the varstty level. They were Jesso Jackson Anthony Jones and Chris Koeppen. Koeppen started during the playoff games and played in the State gamę with this Varsity brother Ted.
Several players commented on the highest pojnt and the lowest point of the season. Shepard handed the sophs a sound deleat at homecoming in 1988, Tony Bizzan may have been thmking about that when he said the best gamę of the season was when we beat Shepard 12-6."
