GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) is a worldwide standard for digital cellular communications networks. Development of the GSM standard was closely modelled on ISDN, especially with regard to the services to be provided and the signalling methods used. Thus data and telefax connections are supported in addition to voice calls, for example. In Germany, both the D1 and D2 networks offer telefax and data services. What is SoftDataLink? SoftDataLink is an integrated communications package and SoftDataLink SoftDataLink SoftDataLink SoftDataLink includes: " A cable, which connects the GSM phone to the serial interface of your computer, and the necessary driver software. The driver software makes CAPI 2.0 available to the application software on the computer according to GSM 07.08. SoftDataLink " The Windows 95 software SoftDataLink SoftDataLink, a compact and high- SoftDataLink SoftDataLink performance CAPI 2.0 communications application. How Does SoftDataLink Work? SoftDataLink GSM The driver SoftDataLink GSM provides the industry standard SoftDataLink GSM SoftDataLink GSM SoftDataLink GSM application interface COMMON-ISDN-API v2.0. The driver software is loaded from the computer´s hard disk and controls the signaling processes and data transmission. It supports fax and data connections to other cellular GSM devices as well as connections to ISDN and PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Networks, i.e. conventional analog phone lines) in accordance with CAPI 2.0. 5 1 Welcome to Siemens SoftDataLink SoftDataLink The communications software SoftDataLink consists of the SoftDataLink SoftDataLink SoftDataLink following modules: SoftDataLink PHONEBOOK " SoftDataLink PHONEBOOK SoftDataLink PHONEBOOK SoftDataLink PHONEBOOK SoftDataLink PHONEBOOK - allows you to manage and edit the internal PhoneBooks of your mobile phone; SoftDataLink ADDRESSBOOK " SoftDataLink ADDRESSBOOK - allows you to store the fax SoftDataLink ADDRESSBOOK SoftDataLink ADDRESSBOOK SoftDataLink ADDRESSBOOK and file transfer numbers of your communications partners; SoftDataLink SMS " SoftDataLink SMS SoftDataLink SMS - enables you to send and receive short SoftDataLink SMS SoftDataLink SMS messages on your computer; SoftData Link FAX " SoftData Link FAX SoftData Link FAX SoftData Link FAX SoftData Link FAX- allows you to send and receive faxes with fax group 3 directly from your word processor; SoftDataLink COM " SoftDataLink COM SoftDataLink COM SoftDataLink COM SoftDataLink COM - provides a BBS terminal to dial into BBS systems; SoftDataLink DATA " SoftDataLink DATA SoftDataLink DATA SoftDataLink DATA SoftDataLink DATA - file transfer module that allows you to exchange data with another cellular computer over GSM SoftDataLink DATA using SoftDataLink DATA SoftDataLink DATA SoftDataLink DATA SoftDataLink DATA. It facilitates the use Dial-up Networking connections to the Internet and to on- line services. Technically, the SDL GSM CAPI Port Driver mediates between Windows 95 s Unimodem/VCOMM architecture and the applications interface COMMON-ISDN-API 2.0 (CAPI). CAPI 2.0 is provided by the SoftDataLink GSM driver. The SDL GSM CAPI Port Driver supplies virtual modem entries which can be selected immediately for use under many diffe- rent applications, with no additional configuration necessary. The following modems are provided: " SDL Fax G3 With the virtual modem "SDL FAX (G3)" you may use the fax function of MS Exchange/Outlook and other fax applications (Fax Group 3=analog fax). Within the standard Fax Group 3 there are different classes. The virtual modem "SDL GSM FAX (G3)" supports "Fax Class 2". When you install MS Exchange/Outlook, select the modem "SDL GSM FAX (G3)". Further settings are not necessary (default modem setting: AT S31=3). For further information on configuring MS Exchange/Outlook, please refer to the Windows 95 documentation or contact your local reseller/ Microsoft. " SDL GSM Modem V.32 Use the virtual modem "SDL GSM Modem (V.32)" to dial into an analog BBS or an analog dial-in port of your Internet Ser- vice Provider. The initialize command for analog operation according to V.32 is AT S31=8. In addition, asynchronous PPP must be enabled (AT S51=0). Both settings are used as defaults for this modem. " SDL GSM ISDN V.110 You may use the virtual modem "SDL GSM ISDN V.110" to dial into an ISDN dial-in port using the protocol V.110.
