Project 5 Magic Dice Materials " One sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 card stock " Scissors " Glue Instructions 1. Print the artwork on card stock. Allow to dry completely. 2. Cut out the artwork along the guidelines. 3. Fold the dice as indicated, tucking the tabs inside. 4. Unfold and put a little bit of glue on each tab. 5. Refold the dice and hold them together while the glue sets. (Tip: You can use tape instead of glue if you like.) How the trick works The numbers on opposite faces of a die add up to seven. If you add the opposite faces of each of three dice the total is 21. How to perform the trick 1. Ask a volunteer from your audience to wear your magic hat. Explain that the hat will mysteriously absorb the volunteer s thoughts. (If you didn t make the magician s hat, you can skip this step.) 2. Turn your back to the volunteer and ask him or her to roll the three dice and stack them on top of each other. Then ask the volunteer to add up the numbers on the hidden faces of the dice and memorize the answer. 3. When the volunteer has the answer, turn around and ask for your magic hat back. Explain that the hat will reveal the number the volunteer has just memorized. (Again, if you didn t make the hat, you can skip that part.) When you turn around, glance at the number on the top die and subtract from 21 this will give you the number the volunteer was thinking of. 4. Amaze your audience by correctly guessing the number.
