Subject: Improved Double Reach Bushing

To obtain longer component life bushing (P/N 2311680) Item 29 on the double reach attachment has
been replaced by (P/N 2305211) which has a higher load bearing capacity. Related part changes
required during bushing replacement are Item 31 (P/N 18497) replaced by (P/N 221457) and Item 32
(P/N 2308748) replaced by (P/N 221765).

WARNING: Components of the reach attachment can move and clearances are small. Follow in-

structions in the service manual when replacing bushings.

When installing the new bushing the following steps should be observed to insure proper wear of the
bushing.

1. The bushing housing should be cleaned and inspected for obvious wear or damage.

2. The housing bore inside diameter should be measured and be within 1.624 to 1.626 inches.

The inner arm and crossmember weldments should not be used if the bore fails the criterion 1
and 2.

3. The bushing should be driven into the housing bore from the side that has a 0.06 x 15 degree

lead-in.

The bore has a lead in on one side only. If the bushing is driven from the “wrong” side; the
bushing will likely be damaged.

4. The stud (which pivots inside the bushing) should be cleaned and inspected for obvious wear or

damage.

5. The stud outside diameter should be measured and be within 1.3725 to 1.3735 inches.

The outer arm weldments should not be used if the stud fails criterion 4 & 5.

6. The zinc-aluminum thrust washers and end cap should be cleaned and inspected with damaged

parts being replaced.

7. The arms should be carefully reassembled to avoid damaging the bushing inner surface.
