The Fungal Diseases Study Group of The Canadian Infectious Disease Society (CIDS) is proud
to support the first in a series of live Medical CyberSessions, which will take place on
June 22, 1999 at 5:00 pm EDT. Drs Coleman Rotstein, Thomas J. Walsh, Peter Pappas and Eric
Bow will be discussing fungal therapy for the new millennium.

Medical CyberSessions are innovative and interactive medical conferences that take
place via the Internet. Viewers can log on from the convenience of their home or office,
listen to live formal discussions with slides and audio, and participate in a real-time
interactive Q&A period with the speakers.

The incidence of invasive fungal infections, especially Candida, has risen dramatically
in both immunocompromised and non-compromised hospitalized patients. Invasive fungal
infections impact significantly the prognosis of solid organ transplant recipients,
patients with underlying malignant disease, and patients in the Intensive Care Unit. As we
approach the next millennium, with the increased diversity of fungal pathogens, rising
resistance, and the burgeoning number of immunocompromised patients, physicians must
become acquainted with the benefits and drawbacks of new antifungal agents. This
CyberSession provides an approach to the treatment of invasive fungal infections in solid
organ transplant recipients, ICU patients, and those with underlying malignancy.
