Application of Directive 94/9/EC to Water Trough Barriers
The following has been discussed at the meeting of the ATEX 94/9/EC Standing Committee Working Group held the 1st of December 2005:
The definition of a protective system according Art. 1(3)b) of the Directive 94/9/EC applies to water trough barriers.
The complete barriers are considered as an assembly of a protective system.
The troughs (ort he sacks as sometimes used in Central Europe) are to be considered as components.
Such an assembly is normally not supplied ready for use, but will be assembled at the user's site according to the type description. The type description defines which variations are allowed (e.g. positioning of the troughs, number of the troughs, possibly the number of the barriers to be placed in sequence).
In many cases the user will be the manufacturer in the sense of directive 94/9/EC.
