Watchkeeper, bridge

  • Requests Master to proceed to bridge, reports situation;

  • may alert other available officer;

  • does not leave bridge !

  • keeps lookout;

  • if in imminent danger of colliding with other ship on starboard, alters course to starboard;

  • otherwise, maintains course and speed and awaits arrival of a nautical officer.

Engineer of the watch unfit for duty

Engine room personnel

  • Raise engineer alarm;

  • ring Chief Engineer;

  • man engine control room/control platform;

  • inform bridge; if vessel on manual steering, ask for current engine manoeuvre;

  • carry out manoeuvring order;

  • otherwise, await arrival of an engineer.

Engineers' Alarm

Officer of the watch

  • Vessel navigating in estuary and/or manoeuvring: immediately mans rudder;

  • summons second watchman, orders to him take over rudder;

  • requests Master to proceed to bridge;

  • summons replacement for second watchman.

First Aid

whoever is at the scene

  • administers First Aid to casualty:

  • checks breathing and heartbeat, where necessary, administers respiration and heart massage;

  • places casualty in stable side position.

Documentation

  • Makes entry in ship's log;

  • makes entry in sick log;

  • reports to headoffice.
