Glauconitic Sandstone
Glauconite is a potassium iron alumino-silicate which forms in shallow marinę cnvironments and is widespreacl in sandstones and limestones. 121 and 122 show a glauconitic sandstonc cemented by calcitc. The glauconite occurs as rounded aggregates of very smali crystals with a characteristic green colour. This colour masks ihc interference colours. Quartz is rounded, elear in plane-polarized lighl (121) and showing shades of grey with crossed polars (122). The calcite cement with its high relief shows high-order interference colours.
