Some Practical Guidelines for Designing an Industrial Experiment

Abstract

The design of experiments using sound statistically-oriented thinking is an important aspect of the solution of many industrial problems. The technical aspects of this subject are well-known; however, the framework for planning experiments includes morÄ™ than just the technical aspects. This paper deals with some of the broader issues in planning industrial experiments; specifically, the steps that guide the experimenter through the process of planning, conducting, analyzing, and interpreting the results of an experiment.
