Morphology:
the brain is softened and edematous with areas of hemorrhage
The cortical mantle may be intemipted by an irregular, linear zonę of softening and discoloration (laminar cortical necrosis)
The demarcation between gray and white matter is usually blurred
Microscopically: changes appear after 12 to 24 hours with neuronal shrinkage or swelling, cytoplasmic eosinophilia, nuclear pyknosis, ano cytologie features of necrosis, parenchyma is vacuolated, with perivascular and pericellular spaces.
