A: Good morning, I’d like to buy a mobile phone. 
B: This is our top range model. The X800. It’s $400. 
A: Actually, I’d like something cheaper. 
B: What about this one. The X450 model. It’s $250. 
A: Can it take photos? 
B: No, it can’t. But it can send e-mails and connect to the Internet. 
A: Does the price include tax? 
B: No, it doesn’t. It’s $280 with sales tax.

This is our patrol route. We will start at the village of Sila, move along route blue to 
Varga and then set up a checkpoint at grid 158362. 
The patrol will leave at 0700. We should reach our checkpoint position at 0830. We 
will remain there until 1400.  
Keep to the roads and don’t walk on the side of the road. Engineers report that there 
are still mines. 
The current alert status is green. We have reports of activity in our area of operations 
and the alert status will change to yellow at 2400. 
The weather forecast for tomorrow morning is cold and wet. Tomorrow afternoon 
should be about 20° centigrade and dry.

B: Good morning, this is Sergeant Smith from HQ Ops Room. Could I speak to 
Sergeant Bright? 
A: Wait one minute, please. ... I’m sorry. Sergeant Bright isn’t available at the 
moment. He’ll be finished in about 30 minutes. 
B: Could you tell him that General Neville is arriving tonight? 
A: Could you spell that name, please? 
B: Yes, Neville – that’s november, echo, victor, india, lima, lima, echo. He’s arriving 
at 1930 on flight number IB 789 – that’s india, bravo, seven, eight, nine.  I want 
Sergeant Bright to organise a driver and transport to the hotel. Tell him that Colonel 
Jones will meet the general for dinner at the hotel.

big party. 
A: Oh. Well, I’m sure you’ll like England. Is this your first trip? 
B: It’s my first trip to York. But last year I was in Birmingham for a conference.
