My Street

by Alex Gardener

I think our street is a very interesting place

because

all our neighbours come

from different countries. We all get on well

1

each other. I’m English,

2

our next-door

neighbours come from Poland and the
family opposite us are from Bulgaria. My
best friend, who lives in our street, is from
Wales and he

3

speak

Welsh. He speaks English with a strong
Welsh

4

. He is

5

to teach me some

words in Welsh, but it’s difficult and I’m not
very good

6

it! Other

neighbours are Chinese, French and
Canadian. Every summer we have a big
street party and all

7

neighbours cook something from

8

own country. We learn

songs in each other’s languages and dance
in the street. My friends and I also play in a
band. We have great

9

together. Every December we visit the other
houses to celebrate Christmas in different
traditional ways and we also celebrate the
Chinese New Year. We’ve got friends who
live all over the world and every evening
we keep in touch with them by

10

on Skype or Facebook.

I love technology! I’m very interested

11

learning about

different cultures and I can do that on my
street, without having to travel far at all!

Hi Julia,

We are in our new house now. The
neighbours are very friendly and the new
house is lovely. It’s in

1

small town near the sea and we can see
the beach from

2

living

room window.

Our neighbour on one side is

3

old man. I’d like to

4

to know him,

5

he doesn’t speak to

anybody. When it’s raining he sits by his
window and looks out to sea and when it’s
sunny, he’s always busy in his back garden.
I think he grows vegetables there. I

6

see him from my

bedroom window and I sometimes draw
pictures

7

him working

in his garden.

You know I

8

interested

in art – I am

9

a

picture of our new house. I will send it
to you when I finish it. I also have a lot
of homework for my new school and this
week we

10

doing a

project about food from around the world.

Hope to see you soon.

Love,

Sally
