Alakazam the Great

Alakazam is a young and brave monkey who convinces all the other
monkeys to make him their king. After attaining the throne and learning
magic, he becomes so vain that he goes to heaven to challenge the gods.
He is defeated by King Amo, and sentenced to serve as the bodyguard of
Prince Amat in order to learn humility.



Tales of a Street Corner

The scene is set with a poster on a street corner, a girl who cherishes her teddy
bear, a street lamp and a playful moth that is drawn to the lamp. These
creatures and inanimate objects, each with their own dramas, get involved in a
war and the story ends in a tragic climax. This is a private animated piece that
expresses feelings rather than telling a story. It can be said that Tezuka Osamu,
frustrated with working for big companies, made an attempt here to depict
what he really wanted in his animation. This work illustrates that even a poster
on the wall can have a vivid drama behind it, and brings the magic of
animation alive for us.



Tetsuwan Atom

Astro Boy was created by Doctor Boyton when his son Toby died in a
car accident. Astro is an exact match for Toby. And was origionally
called Toby by his "father". When Astro was first built, Doctor Boyton
wanted to keep him a secret. But people eventually found about him
and he became a hero. Astro was seperated from his father during a
cruise. Astro saved the ship from some ice burgs, when he returned,

his father had disappeared. Astro was tricked into signing himself over to a robot circus. It was
in the robot circus that he met Kathy, who gave Astro his name; Astro Boy.



Jungle Taitei

* This is the first full color TV anime.
This is the story about a white lion, Leo, living in Africa.

Leo is born on the

boat. Eliza teaches him his father's ideals. As a huge storm nears, she urges
her cub out through the bars of her cage. The storm wrecks the boat, and he
flounders in the ocean. The fish help him learn to swim. As he begins to
despair, the stars in the sky form the face of his mother, who encourages him.
Guided by butterflies, he makes it to land.

Leo lands far from his ancestral

home and is found and cared for by some people. He learns the advantages of
human culture, and decides that when he returns to his wild home he will
bring culture to the jungle and stand for peace like his father.



1001 Nights

Beautifully constructed, 1001 Nights stays true to the lush and mysterious
backdrop of the well known and age old story. Tezuka remolds the story into an
escapist fantasy where a 60s-era working man is transported back to an era of
entirely fictitious Arabian details. Seemingly at odds with itself, 1001 Nights
consistently unfolds in a way that combines Playboy graphics, Arabian rug design
and traditional Japanese scroll paintings.



Kleopatra

This is the second major animated piece following the big hit "A Thousand
and One Night Stories" in Japan. The distributor treated the film as an erotic
animated work for adults, advertising it as a piece "far more erotic than a
thousand and one might stories." The film produced a number of popular
sayings and gags that have since become outdated. However, the film
remains an impressive and beautiful piece.

Heidi – Dziewczyna z Alp

After becoming an orphan, Heidi is forced to live with her grandfather Öhi,
who lives in the Alps. She learns he's a very bitter man who only accepted
by force to take her in. But Heidi's kindness may be able to open his heart.
Together with the shepherd Peter and invalid Klara, she has lots of
adventures.

Marco

Marco is a young boy living in Genoa, Italy, together with his father Pietro.
But the family is not complete, for Marco`s mother left for Argentina around
a year earlier in order to find work. Letters from her arrive regularly until one
day they suddenly stop. Worry for his mother and what might have happened
to her overcomes the young boy. Marco thus decides to embark upon a
journey to Argentina in the hope of being reunited with his mother. At first,
Pietro is opposed to Marco`s plan, but moved by his son*s enthusiasm, he
eventually allows the boy to go. So begins Marco`s long journey of the heart.
Marco encounters many people throughout his travels, and finds maturity
and self-acceptance as a result of his experiences.



Ania z Zielonego Wzgórza

Anne is an orphan full of imagination. When she arrives at her new home
she learns that sometimes you have to be a sensible person too; at the
same time her unique character changes, or at least attracts, the people
around her. The story covers Anne's growth from about eleven to
seventeen years old as she makes friends, goes to school and studies. At a
difficult point in her life, Anne will have to make a hard choice and perhaps
find a new dream.



Panda Kopanda

Panda Kopanda (Panda! Go Panda!) is a 30 minute movie made in 1972.
Miyazaki created the original idea, the script, the layouts, and did key
animation, and Takahata directed the film. The story is about a little girl,
Mimiko, who was left alone while her Grandma was away. A 1973 sequel,
Panda Kopanda: Amefuri Saakasu no Maki (Panda! Go Panda! & the Rainy-
day Circus), continues the story and was made by the same people who
made the first movie. The literal translation of the title Panda Kopanda is
"Panda, Baby Panda", but it`s been released in North America as Panda Go
Panda.



Gauche The Cellist

The story concerns Goshu, a professional cellist. During rehearsals for a
performance, he is scolded by the conductor because his playing is not
good enough. His timing is off and he seems to have no "feel" for themusic.

Goshu returns to his lonely cottage and starts practicing. Enter a cat who
tricks him into understanding the inner meaning of the music. The
importance of practice is shown by a cuckoo, rhythm by a badger and
tenderness by a mouse. In four days he learns the true meaning and
feeling of music and develops into a great musician. Laced with popular
classical music this special combines fun and inspiration for all ages and
audiences.



Grobowiec Świetlików

In the aftermath of a World War II bombing, two orphaned children struggle
to survive in the Japanese countryside. To Seita and his four year old sister,
the helplessness and indifference of their countrymen is even more painful
than the enemy raids. Through desperation, hunger and grief, these children's
lives are as heartbreakingly fragile as their spirit and love is inspiring.



Taeko Okajima is a typical "office lady" in a big company in a big city.
When she takes a sabbatical to the countryside in Yamagata Prefecture,
the hometown of her brother-in-law, the journey recalled her memory of
her 5th grade year. During her stay in Yamagata, she works hard and
happily as a farmer and is surrounded by friendly relatives and villagers,
bringing up more memories. Their hospitality makes her to reconsider her
choice of life.



Pom Poko

Faced with the destruction of their habitat due to the growth of Tokyo, a
group of tanuki try to defend their homes. They decide to use their
transforming talents to try to hold back the new development. Two of
them, especially skilled at transforming, are sent to Shikoku to enlist the
help of three sages. Meanwhile, the rest of them do their best to disrupt
the construction site, at first causing accidents, and then actually haunting
the site. However, the humans are very persistent, and soon the tanuki
are forced to use more and more extreme measures to save their home.

Lupin III – Zamek Cagliostro

After a successful robbery leaves famed thief Lupin III and his partner Jigen

treasures he may find in the Castle of Cagliostro, including the 'damsel in
distress' he finds imprisoned there. However, as usual, Inspector Zenigata
is hot on his trail. Tracking the legendary counterfeits known as "Goat Bills,"
international thief Arsene Lupin III arrives at the Duchy of Cagliostro. Once
there, he nearly rescues a damsel in distress from the Regent's guards.
Following his failure, Lupin takes it upon himself to save her from captivity.

Nausicaa z Doliny Wiatru

greedy air pirates, secret government agents and astounding obstacles to

Mój Sąsiad Totoro

Follow the adventures of Satsuki and her four-year-old sister Mei when
they move into a new home in the countryside. To their delight they
discover that their new neighbor is a mysterious forest spirit called Totoro
who can be seen only through the eyes of a child. Totoro introduces them
to extraordinary characters, including a cat that doubles as a bus, takes
them on a journey through the wonders of nature.



Podniebna Poczta Kiki

Kiki is an enterprising young girl who must follow tradition to become a full-
fledged witch. Venturing out with only her chatty black cat, Jiji, Kiki flies off

Porco Rosso

world-renowned animator Hayao Miyazaki is full of humor, courage and
chivalry. When ''Porco'' -- whose face has been transformed into that of a pig
by a mysterious spell -- infuriates a band of sky pirates with his aerial heroics,

Księżniczka Mononoke

A calm village residing in the mountains comes under attack from a
demon-possessed boar one day. Ashitaka, a young man and prince of the
tribe, engages the creature in an attempt to save his village. During the
battle, the boar bites him on the arm, leaving it blackened and cursed.
Following his village's traditions, Ashitaka is exiled and becomes a
wanderer, looking for a solution to the curse before it engulfs him. Iron
Town is a fortress under the leadership of Lady Eboshi. Through the
clearing of the surrounding forests, Iron Town produces large amounts of
Ironsand, used for gunpowder and other machinery. However, because of
the forests destruction, nearby animal clans seek revenge led by a human
girl of the Wolf clan called San. When Ashitaka comes to Iron Town, he

discovers the area consumed in battle. Horrified, he attempts to create peace and befriend the
Wolf Clan. However, after the forest's eradication and the ongoing war between Human and
Beast, will the Spirit of the Forest be forgiving and accept Ashitaka's request to expel his curse?



Spirited Away

On the way to their new home, 10-year old Chihiro Ogino’s family stumbles
upon a deserted theme park. Intrigued, the family investigates the park,
though unbeknown to them, it is secretly inhabited by spirits who sleep by
day and appear at night. When Chihiro’s mother and father eat food from a
restaurant in the street, angry spirits turns them into pigs. Furthermore, a
wide sea has appeared between the spirit world and the human one,
trapping Chihiro, the sole human, in a land of spirits. Luckily for her though,
a mysterious boy named Haku appears, claiming to know her from the past.
Under his instructions, Chihiro secures a job in the bathhouse where Haku
works. With only her courage and some new found friends to aid her, Chihiro

embarks on a journey to turn her parents back to their original forms and return home.



Ruchomy Zamek Howla

Sophie, a quiet girl working in a hat shop, finds her life thrown into turmoil

gigantic storm. Only Ponyo's mother, a beautiful sea goddess, can restore
nature's balance and make Ponyo's dreams come true.

Lum doesn't need much assistance going ballistic when everyone in
Tomobiki gets an invitation to Ataru's wedding -- and she's not listed as
the bride! It seems that some 11 years ago, Ataru played "Shadow Tag"
with a young girl named Elle and won. Unfortunately, Elle was yet another
Alien Princess; and on her planet, if a boy steps on a girl's shadow, they
have to marry. When Elle's emissary comes to make arrangements, Lum
redefines the term "the atmosphere was electric," but to no avail: a force-
field now protects Ataru from her high voltage love-zaps. Lum's friend
Benten suggests a pre-emptive wedding, and they proceed to abduct
Ataru and all of the wedding guests, and the stage is set for the shotgun
wedding of all time!



Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer

Not all is normal in Tomobiki, even by its standards. The students have
been preparing feverishly for the first day of the student fair, which is
scheduled to go on the next day. However, problems arise when some
begin to notice that the next day simply will not come. As the students
begin to try to find the reason for the problem, their beliefs about
reality and the world of dreams are challenged.

Patlabor

Izumi Noa, a female police officer, becomes the newest recruit of Special
Vechicals Devision 2, she and her top of the line "Patrol Labor" (or
"Patlabor") Alphonse are swept into a series of adventures featuring crazed
construction workers, eco-terrorists, and sea monsters.



Ghost in the Shell

In the year 2029, the barriers of our world have been broken down by
the net and by cybernetics, but this brings new vulnerability to humans in
the form of brain-hacking. When a highly-wanted hacker known as 'The
Puppetmaster' begins involving them in politics, Section 9, a group of
cybernetically enhanced cops, are called in to investigate and stop the
Puppetmaster. The pursuit will call into question what makes a human
and what is the Puppetmaster in a world where the distinction between
human and machine is increasingly blurry.



Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

The heavily cyborged police officer Batou, newly partnered with the
mostly-human Togusa after the diappearance of Major Motoko Kusanagi, is
assigned to investigate a series of murders committed by prototype
"sexaroids" - female androids created for sex.



Open Your Mind

The plot of Open Your Mind follows the extraterrestrial origin of life, coming
from outerspace as six deities (Intermission act), evolving into water (Sho-
ho) then emerging to the air (Hyakkin) and to the ground (Ku-nu). Each
one of these creatures rules one of the six elements of the godai philosophy,
i.e. Earth, Water, Fire, Wind (referred to as kaze in the Hyakkin chant), Sky
and Consciousness (referred to as "Awakening" in the movie's title).



The Sky Crawlers

The Sky Crawlers is based on a Japanese novel series by Hiroshi Mori. First
published by Chuōkōron-shinsha in June 2001 and spanning five books, it
follows the journeys and tribulations of a group of young fighter pilots
involved in dogfight warfare, and is set during an alternate historical
period.



Otaku no Video

Somewhat based on the real story of how Gainax was founded, Otaku no
Video addresses all aspects of an otaku lifestyle. Ken Kubo is a young man
living an average life until he is dragged into a group of otaku. Slowly, he
becomes more like them until he decides to abandon his former life to
become king of otaku —the otaking!

Mixed in are live-action interviews with real otaku, addressing every aspect
of hardcore otaku life. Not only are anime and manga fans included, but
also sci-fi fans, military fans, and other groups of Japanese geeks.



Gun Buster vs. Die Buster

This double feature comprises of Gunbuster and Die Buster (aka
Gunbuster 2) condensed them into a single theatrical release told in two
parts with a musical intermission in between. The first part, Gunbuster the
Movie, condenses the six episodes of the original OVA into a 95-minute
moviefeaturing a new 5.1 audio remix and a redub by the original
Japanese cast. The second part, Die Buster the Movie, mixes large chunks
of the second OVA series with a few altered or newly-animated scenes to
create a truncated take on Nono's story.

Royal Spaceforce: The Wings of Honneamise

Neon Genesis Evangelion

In the year 2015, the Angels, huge, tremendously powerful, alien war
machines, appear in Tokyo for the second time. The only hope for
Mankind's survival lies in the Evangelion, a humanoid fighting machine
developed by NERV, a special United Nations agency. Capable of
withstanding anything the Angels can dish out, the Evangelion's one
drawback lies in the limited number of people able to pilot them. Only a
handful of teenagers, all born fourteen years ago, nine months after the
Angels first appeared, are able to interface with the Evangelion. One such
teenager is Shinji Ikari, whose father heads the NERV team that
developed and maintains the Evangelion. Thrust into a maelstrom of
battle and events that he does not understand, Shinji is forced to plumb
the depths of his own inner resources for the courage and strength to not

only fight, but to survive, or risk losing everything.

A snooty salaryman is sent by his bosses to the jungle to stop a completely
automated construction job, and spends several days there arguing with
the robots.

Robot Carnival

9 of Japan's leading animators were asked to create a short segment that
followed the theme of "Robots," for their inclusion in this film. Essentially,
this "movie" is 9 short films, all independant of one another. The common
element is human interaction with robots, namely the consequences of
creating life with one's own hands, played in nine very different ways.

Akira

In the year 2019, thirty-one years have passed since the outbreak of

custody and accidentally gets a motorcycle gang involved in the project.
The incident triggers psychic powers within one of the members, Tetsuo,
and he is taken by the army and experimented on. His mind has been
warped and is now on the path of war, exacting revenge on the society
that once called him weak.



Memories

From Katsuhiro Otomo, acclaimed creator of Akira, comes an animated
masterpiece; three short stories all put together as a series of Memories.
Part one is titled Magnetic Rose, a science fiction tale that tells a chilling
story of love, loss, and the unwillingness to forget. Part two is titled Stink
Bomb - a tongue-in-cheek story of a chemical researcher who is just
looking for a way to get rid of his cold... so why is everybody around him
dying? Story three is titled Cannon fodder, and is an introspective tale
about modern wars and simply following orders. Music conducted by Yoko
Kanno, Jun Miyake, Hiroyuki Nagashima, and Takkyu Ishino.



Steamboy

Ray is a young inventor living in the U.K. in the middle of the 19th century.
Shortly before the first ever Great Exhibition, a marvelous invention called
the "Steam Ball," behind which a menacing power is hidden, arrives at his
door from his grandfather Lloid in the U.S. Meanwhile the nefarious O'Hara
Foundation has sent men to aquire the Steam Ball so that they can use its
power towards their own illicit ends.



Perfect Blue

Mima Kirigoe, a member of a pop-idol group called "CHAM!", decides to quit
singing to pursue a career as an actress. Some of her fans are displeased
with this decision though, particularly a stalker named Me-Mania. As Mima
progresses into her new career, those close to her are violently murdered
one by one, and Mima begins to lose the ability to distinguish reality from
fantasy.



Millennium Actress

When Studio Gin'ei commissions filmmaker Gen'ya Tachibana to make a
documentary in commemoration of its 70th anniversary, he travels to a
secluded mountain lodge to interview the idol of his youth, the enigmatic
Chiyoko Fujiwara, who was the studio's leading lady from the 1930s until
the 1960s. As Chiyoko reminisces about her life, Tachibana and his
cameraman suddenly find themselves on a rich and dazzling journey
through time. Chiyoko's films and personal memories intertwine with
present events and stretch the boundaries of reality.



Tokyo Godfathers

Three homeless companions -- a runaway girl, a transvestite, and an
alcoholic -- find an abandoned newborn on Christmas Eve while foraging
through trash. Using clues found next to the baby, they fan out through
Tokyo to find the parents, along the way confronting reminders of their
own lives they have nearly abandoned.



An elementary school kid dubbed with the title "shounen bat" or "lil
slugger" has been going around attacking people with his bent, golden bat.
Now, two detectives are investigating so they can stop this kid from
making any more attacks, but they will find out soon enough... that this
case is much more than they expected.



In the near future, a revolutionary new psychotherapy treatment called
PT has been invented. Through a device called the "DC Mini" it is able
to act as a "dream detective" to enter into people's dreams and explore
their unconscious thoughts. Before the government can pass a bill
authorizing the use of such advanced psychiatric technology, one of the
prototypes is stolen, sending the research facility into an uproar. In the
wrong hands, the potential misuse of the device could be devastating,
allowing the user to completely annihilate a dreamer's personality while
they are asleep. Renowned scientist, Dr. Atsuko Chiba, enters the
dream world under her exotic alter-ego, code name "PAPRIKA," in an
attempt to discover who is behind the plot to undermine the new
invention.
