My Street

by Alex Gardener

I think our street is a very interesting place

because

all our neighbours come

from different countries. We all

1

on well with each other.

I’m English, but our next-door neighbours are
Polish and the family opposite us are

2

Bulgaria. My best friend,

who lives in our street, is from Wales and he

3

Welsh and English. He

speaks English with a strong Welsh

4

. He

5

trying to teach me some words in Welsh, but
it’s difficult and I’m not very

6

at it! Other neighbours

are Chinese and Canadian. Every summer we
have

7

big street party and

all the neighbours cook something from their
own country. We learn songs in each other’s
languages and dance in

8

street. My friends and I also play in a band.
We

9

great fun together.

Every December we visit the other houses to
celebrate Christmas in different traditional
ways and we also celebrate the Chinese New
Year. We’ve got friends who live all over the
world and we

10

in touch

with them by chatting on Skype or Facebook.
I love technology! I’m very

11

in learning about

different cultures and I can do that right here
on my street!

Hi Julia,

We are in our new house now. The
neighbours are very friendly and the new
house is lovely. It’s in a small town near

1

sea and we can see

2

beach from our living

room window.

Our neighbour on one side is

3

old man. I’d like to get

4

know him,

5

he doesn’t speak to

anybody. When it

6

raining, he sits by his window and looks
out to sea, and when it’s sunny he’s
always busy in his back garden. I can see
him from my bedroom window and I
sometimes

7

pictures of

him working in his garden.

You know I am

8

art,

don’t you? Well, I

9

painting a picture of our new house. I will
send it to you when I finish it. I also have

10

lot of homework for

my new school and this week we are doing
a project about food from around the
world.

Hope to see you soon.

Love,

Sally
