Nowadays, we are in a great need of a new type of a car. The main reason is to take
care of our environment. The amount of greenhouse gasses in atmosphere must be reduced.
The problem with current cars with petrol and diesel engines is that they consume too much
fossil fuel and emit too much greenhouse gas. Other hydrogen fuel cell cars are usually too
heavy and have low acceleration, while the Hydro-X car can accelerate quickly and cruise at
160km/h. In addition, it has a range of 480km. The Hydro-X car doesn’t emit any harmful
gasses. Its only emission is water vapour. The car is based on 2 technologies: the hydrogen
fuel cell and the ultra-capacitor. Those technologies have a lot of advantages. For instance, the
fuel cell is smaller and lighter because it’s not needed for acceleration. It’s also more
powerful because of the ultra-capacitors. Full cell is located under the floor to provide more
space. It provides a maximum power output of 93kW. Motor is located between the front
wheels, provides output of 90kW. Ultra-capacitor is located at an angle behind the rear seat
to increase luggage space, deliver high output power during startup and accelerations. And
hydrogen storage tanks are located under the rear seat. It can be filled with 168,3l of
compressed hydrogen gas. They are connected to fuel cell by special pipes. Air pump is also
very useful - it supplies the fuel cells with oxygen. When the Hydro-X starts power comes
from both the ultra-capacitor and the fuel cell to provide powerful acceleration. When it
cruises power comes from the fuel cell, but not from the capacitor. The ultra-capacitor
absorbs the energy released during deceleration and stores it with power from the fuel cell.
When it stops there is no power from the fuel cell. The electricity needed to operate the air
conditioner and other components is supplied by the ultra-capacitor.
