Controlling Blood Sugar Levels
Eating food makes your
blood sugar level rises.
Exercise makes blood
sugar level fall.
If your blood sugar level
is too high or too low it
can damage your body.
Your
pancreas
controls
blood sugar level..

If your blood sugar level is too
high
When your blood sugar
level rises your pancreas
secretes the hormone
insulin.
This tells your liver to
store the extra glucose
as glycogen until it is
needed.
As a result your blood
sugar level falls back to
normal levels…

If your blood sugar level is too
low
When your blood sugar
level falls too low your
pancreas secretes the
hormone glucagon.
This tells the liver to turn
the stored glycogen back
to glucose.
This is released into the
blood increasing blood
sugar to normal levels
again…

Diabetes
Caused when the body
doesn’t produce enough
insulin.
Blood sugar rises too high
and glucose is excreted in
the urine and you are
always thirsty.
Mild diabetes can be treated
by watching what you eat.
More serious diabetes needs
injection of insulin every
day….
