TOPIC / THEME: Small - Sided Game - Possession Game

DESCRIPTION OF PRACTICE:
The game designed to improve a player's short passing, control and decision making in match situations with an emphasis on keeping possession with a purpose.
ORGANISATION:
	Pitch: 30 x 20m, a goal each end and markers to signify the middle of the pitch 3 teams, 4 players each plus 2 goalkeepers 2 teams play and the 3^rd team's players are positioned, on the outside of either side of the pitch 3 sets of bibs Extra balls at each end for continuity A whistle to start and stop, a watch to keep time A goal is scored when either a team scores in the normal goal or as a progression, keeps the ball for 6 passes Outside players must only play with team in possession A player must stay in the attacking half at all times Restart always with Goalkeepers of the team in possession

KEY OBSERVATION FACTORS:

Create space to keep possession (width and depth) Head up while in possession Quality passing and control Decision making (timing/ selection of the pass)

NOTES:

Do not stop the game too much (Use natural breaks) Start the game with free play before introducing conditions First encourage players to create space (width & depth while in possession) Encourage short passing and getting the players in possession to use the supporting players Encourage players to pass and move continually Outside players must move up and down the side of the pitch to create angles to keep possession If a goal is scored reward the scoring team by restarting the game with their Goalkeeper Change outside team every 2 minutes
